　　帕翠是一位中年母亲，独自抚养着两个未成年的儿子。尽管她终日奔波忙碌，却还是无法应付一大堆付也付不完的账单。雪上加霜的生活终于把帕翠逼上了另外一条路，她接受了好友凯瑞的建议，开始贩卖毒品。
　　帕翠本来只想靠此道赚钱来维持生活，但贩毒网络的幕后老板阿历克斯却胁迫她吸毒。帕翠为毒瘾驱使，终日在外游荡寻觅毒品，孩子们的生活费、医药费也被她拿去换成了毒品。大儿子杰森伤心绝望之余，带着弟弟要离家出走。在儿子们清澈而哀伤的目光注视下，帕翠下定决心要摆脱毒品的纠缠。可阿历克斯却不肯轻易罢手。不久，凯瑞和男友，连同年幼的儿子被阿历克斯杀死在家里。恐惧不安整日围绕着帕翠一家……
　　精彩视点：与许多以毒品为主题的影片不同，本片没有刻意营造出恐怖紧张的氛围，也没有跌宕起伏的情节，而是通过深入细致的刻画一个普通人吸毒前后的变化，给人们提出了警示。不可否认，女主人公形象的成功塑造是影片吸引力所在。她的扮演者黛安•基顿是美国影坛70年代的代表女星，她擅长演绎时髦、浪漫却又保持着几分矜持的睿智女性形象。1978年的《安妮霍尔》为她捧回奥斯卡最佳女主角奖，之后她又因主演《烽火赤焰万里情》而再度获金像奖提名。在《突围》这部影片中，黛安将女主角吸毒前后的性格迥异、判若两人表演拿捏得准确、细致而自然可信，再度显示出影后的深厚功底。
