　　皮特（史蒂夫·马丁 Steve Martin 饰）是一位精明强干的律师，虽然处处谨小慎微的他难免给人一种神经质的感觉，平日里亦将大部分的时间花在了工作之上，但热爱家庭忠于妻子凯特（珍·斯马特 Jean Smart 饰）的他总的来说仍旧不失为一个好男人。可是，即便如此，凯特最终还是选择了离开，这让皮特百思不得其解。

　　一次偶然中，皮特在网络上结识了一位化名“女王”的女子，女王的谈吐和学识都令皮特倾倒，更巧合的是，女王也是一名律师。皮特鼓起勇气决定同女王见面，然而，出现在他眼前的这个名叫莫顿（奎恩·拉提法 Queen Latifah 饰）的胖女人却让他大跌眼镜。莫顿不仅根本不是律师，其真实身份竟然是一个逃犯，而坚称自己清白的她找到皮特只有一个目的，那就是帮她打官司。
